Strange Farms Festival 2018

Honestly, this is one of my favorite design projects ever. I think you'll see why in just a minute. First, some back story for those just joining us. Strange Farms was one of the first to let me re-brand them five years ago. It doesn't hurt that the Pres. is a good enough friend to let me pretty up a lot of his pipe dream projects, so when he started pulling together pieces to host a festival I was sold.

THE STORY

The Strange Family has lived on a 1,000 acre farm in South, Ga for generations. Among other endeavors, they ran a local business supplying security products to the U.S. Military for twenty years. Hearing the stories and seeing the great sacrifice made by our soldiers (and their families), their appreciation, as well as, the desire to give back grew.

The PROBLEM

Now an annual, community event this year's event branding needed to go up a notch. Only, we didn't have imagery...

All my dreams for over-laid, California-style design with BIG BLOCK LETTERS would have to wait. What we knew we wanted was subtle patriotism with strong southern, handcrafted appeal. Brands like Garden&Gun, Draper James, and Empire State South were what I had in mind, only with an American twist that tied to Strange Farms. Here's what we did.

The Logo

The Strange Farms master text treatment sits on top of FESTIVAL with an envelope distortion effect on the distressed letters in a off black, slightly gray tone. There's a dotted, eroded stroke in more of a shadow style for an outline helping this logo feel modern-vintage; playful yet put together.

The Site

The homepage, and the main reason this is my new favorite, is the scrolling, parallax design view here with hand drawn illustrations promoting all the key elements of the weekend away. My top pick is the pig, who I lovingly refer to as, Herb. He's an istock purchase and I've put him on E-V-E-R-Y-thing.

To accompany the event, we needed signage, merch and more. These pieces help the event live on and, hopefully; make all of us appreciate the great sacrifice made by our fallen heroes.
